The Collaborative REAnalysis Technical Environment – Intercomparison Project (CREATE-IP) is a project designation in the Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) that is a collection of data from selected major reanalysis efforts underway today. Each dataset is reformatted similarly to facilitate comparison with each other.
CREATE-IP was first viewed as a follow on effort to ana4MIPs, which supports the CMIP model intercomparison and validation exercise. The key differences are that CREATE-IP is designed to facilitate the study of the similarities and differences between reanalyses efforts by providing access to output variables at all available temporal resolutions (monthly, 6hr), as well as the innovations and observations. Access will be provided through multiple distribution, visualization, analytic, and knowledge based services.
The reanalysis data is generated by the various reanalysis centers:
Ocean Reanalysis:
The preparation of the data for publication in the CREATE-IP ESGF project was led by the Climate Data Services at the NASA Center for Climate Simulation with the cooperation of the reanalysis centers. Data was processed up to 2020 for most reanalyses data products. As of 2022, we recommend using ESMValTool available from DLR to process data after 2020. Additional collaborations include reanalyses.org and the European Copernicus Climate Change project.
