You are at the ESGF@DOE/LLNL node |
The Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) is a collaboration that develops, deploys and maintains software infrastructure for the management, dissemination, and analysis of model output and observational data. ESGF's primary goal is to facilitate advancements in Earth System Science. It is an interagency and international effort led by the Department of Energy (DOE), and co-funded by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Science Foundation (NSF), and international laboratories such as the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology (MPI-M) German Climate Computing Centre (DKRZ), the Australian National University (ANU) National Computational Infrastructure (NCI), Institut Pierre-Simon Laplace (IPSL), and the British Atmospheric Data Center (BADC). The ESGF mission is to:
ESGF is a component architecture expressly designed to handle large-scale data management for worldwide distribution. The team of computer scientists and climate scientists has developed an operational system for serving climate data from multiple locations and sources. Model simulations, satellite observations, and reanalysis products are all being served from the ESGF P2P distributed data archive.
ESGF portals like this one provide access to the output of the climate models contributing to the next assessment report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change IPCC through the Coupled Model Intercomparion Project CMIP. The WGCM Infrastructure Panel is the official CMIP document home.
Please try our updated ESGF web application (named "Metagrid"), now undergoing beta testing. For this test release we are reaching out for help from users in the community to report any issues they encounter with the application. The beta-test web application can be found at the following site: https://aims2.llnl.gov/metagrid/
Please see the following page for more information including a FAQ:

The following projects are hosted on LLNL data or index nodes, and these are unrestricted. Downloads should be performed with the -s option to a wget script without the need to login. When using this method for download, ensure you are not using additional options eg. -s and -H should never be combined.
The facetted data search is accessible from the "Search and Download Data" widget on the right of the page through the "Search with options" link.
If you do not find want you are looking for, enable 'Show All Replicas' in the faceted search engine to increase the chances of finding a suitable federated node in the grid that hosts the data of your interest.
Learn the full capabilities of the ESGF service by visiting the User Tutorial and FAQs.
Find the model documentation at the Earth System Documentation ES-DOC portal. As part of the ES-DOC ecosystem, the Errata Service centralizes timely information about known issues of ESGF data. If you do not find what you are looking for, please write to the modelling group, the contact information is in the header of the NetCDF file.
For data management issues, please write the following to the esgf-user@llnl.gov emailing list:
If you want to meet the community and be informed of downtime notifications and updates, please register to the emailing list here.
Expert users may also want to use the ESGF Search RESTful API.
